isvegan is a free app that tells you whether a beer is vegan. It is built to work offline and to collect as little as possible: no accounts, no analytics, no ads, no tracking.
If a beer isn't in the offline database, you can explicitly tap to look it up online. Only then does the app send the beer/brewery name you typed — or, for label scans, the label photo — to our server. The server forwards the query to a web search service (Serper) and to Anthropic's Claude to interpret the results. These requests are processed transiently to answer your question and are not stored by us. No account, device identifier, or location is attached to them.
The camera permission is used solely to scan beer labels. The app does not record audio and does not access your photo library, contacts, or location.
